INITIAL PLAYERS AND ROOKIES OF THE MONTH
ANNOUNCED BY NTCA FOR NOVEMBER 2006

DOVER, DE – Senior Christi White of Fairleigh Dickinson University and junior Whitney Smith of Alabama A&M have been selected as the first recipients of the National Tenpins Coaches Association’s Regional Players of the Month for November 2006. FDU’s Kristy Kerr and Vanderbilt’s Josie Earnest, both true freshmen, were voted as the Regional Rookies of the Month for November 2006. The NTCA is the voice and leadership of NCAA bowling.

The Region Player and Rookie of the Month awards program is a first-year effort of the NTCA to honor the top collegiate bowlers among the nation’s NCAA programs. There are 48 participating NCAA programs nationwide, and regardless of Division I, II, or III affiliation, the participants are divided into two geographic regions – the North East and the Central.

NTCA November 2006 North East Region Player of the Month:
Christi White, senior
Fairleigh Dickinson University
Croydon, PA/Harry Truman High School

Christi White is the first-ever NTCA North East Region Bowler of the Month after leading the defending national champions and No. 1 ranked Knights to a 28-4 record and three first place finishes. In 31 games, she had a 204.94 average and a total pinfall of 6353, while posting 17 games of 200, nine of at least 225, and three over 250. Her high game for the period was a 259.
In the first North East Women’s Collegiate Bowling Conference event of the season on October 28, she had a 229.875 average, and finished first of 52 bowlers in total pinfall with 1839, including two games of 250+. In the second NEWCBC meet on November 4, she had a 209.125 average as FDU went 5-0. She finished fourth of 52 bowlers in total pinfall. In the Cheeseland Classic on November 10-11, won by the Knights, White, a 5-foot-2 senior anchor, had a 188.3 average for 10 games, including a clutch 252 game in the final match that lifted FDU from second place to the tournament title. In the Maryland East Shore Hawk Classic on November 18-19, she placed second among 99 bowlers with a 191.600 average as FDU placed third as a team.

NTCA November 2006 North East Region Rookie of the Month:
Kristi Kerr, freshman

Kristi Kerr is the first-ever NTCA North East Region Rookie Bowler of the Month after posting a 202.66 average for #1 ranked FDU, which has opened defense of its 2006 national title with a 28-4 record. Kerr, a 5-foot-5 freshman, placed in the Top 10 in all four events she has competed in this season. In 32 games, she has a pinfall of 6485, with 14 200-games, and nine of 225 or better.
In the first North East Women’s Collegiate Bowling Conference event of the season on October 28, she had a 213.0 average, finishing seventh of 52 bowlers. In the second NEWCBC meet on November 4, she placed first overall with a 218.0 average and a 1744 total pinfall, while recording five 200-games, four of 225+, and a high game of 277. When FDU won the Cheeseland Classic on November 10-11, she finished ninth of 51 individuals with a 194.385 average. In 13 games, she had a high game of 244 and posted five 200s. In the Maryland East Shore Hawk Classic on November 18-19, she listed sixth of 99 keglers with a 187.2 average.

NTCA November 2006 Central Region Player of the Month:
Whitney Smith, junior
Alabama A&M University
Huntsville, AL/Grissom High School

Whitney Smith is the first-ever NTCA Central Region Bowler of the Month after posting three Top 10 finishes and averaging a 201.53 in three events for No. 7 ranked Alabama A&M, the defending national runners-up. She had a total pinfall of 6046 in 30 games, with 16 of 200 or better and three of 225. The Bulldogs are 19-9 overall.
When the Bulldogs opened the season on October 28 with a pair of losses to Vanderbilt University, Smith, a 5-foot-1 junior anchor finished second in the individual standings with a 207.0 average in three games. At the SWAC West Roundup from November 3-5, she placed third of 57 keglers with a 210.385 average, posting a 200 in 10 of 13 games. The Bulldogs went 10-2 in the tournament and placed third of nine teams. At the Maverick Challenge in Chicago, Alabama A&M went 9-5, as Smith finished eighth of 51 individuals with a 192.143 average and 14-game total wood of 2690. She tallied four 200 games.

NTCA November 2006 Central Region Rookie of the Month:
Josie Earnest, freshman
Vanderbilt University
Vandalia, IL/Vandalia High School

Josie Earnest is the first-ever NTCA Central Region Rookie Bowler of the Month after a strong debut for Vanderbilt University, ranked No. 2 nationally. The 5-foot-5 leadoff bowler posted a two-event average of 188.35 with a 17-game pinfall of 3202 and four 200 games. The Commodores are 28-4 overall.
At the Cheeseland Classic on November 10-12, she had a 186 average in 13 games for 2418 total wood, and finished 14th of 61 keglers, as Vanderbilt finished third of seven teams. When the Commodores won the 16-team Maryland East Shore Hawk Classic on November 18-19 with a 10-0 record, she placed 33rd of 98 in total pinfall, substituting out of the rotation. In four games, she still had a 784 pinfall and two 200 games, with a high of 223.
