TOP THREE GO UNCHANGED IN LATEST NTCA SWEET-16

DOVER, DE – Fairleigh Dickinson University of Teaneck, NJ, Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, NE reclaimed the top three spots, respectively, in the latest national poll conducted by the National Tenpins Coaches Association, the voice and leadership of NCAA bowling. This is the third of six monthly polls scheduled for the 2006-07 season by the NTCA.

Fairleigh Dickinson narrowly was ranked first for the third straight poll. While the Knights received 10 out of 19 first place votes (10), they held onto the top spot by a mere eight points. In their only competition during the latest evaluation period, FDU (37-8-0) finished third at the Holiday Jamboree in Glassboro, NJ.

Vanderbilt (28-4-0) maintained its second place ranking after its huge victory at the Mississippi Valley State Invitational in Greenwood, MS. The Commodores’ 7-1 event match record was tied for first; but they gained the tournament title based on the overall total pin fall, the MVSU Invitational tie-breaker rule. In the poll VU (28-4-0) tallied seven first place votes.

The University of Nebraska – Lincoln, collected two first place votes and preserved its third place ranking. The Huskers are 27-7-0 and have won 21 of their last 22 matches. UNL placed second at the Mississippi Valley State Invitation.

New Jersey City University of Jersey City, NJ and the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore of Princess Ann, MD have moved up to the fourth and fifth place rankings, correspondingly. NJCU (34-9-0) traveled a tough road in winning the Holiday Jamboree championship, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in the semifinals and UMES in the finals. The UMES Hawks improved its season match record to 47-9-0 with the second place finish at the Holiday Jamboree.

Leading the second half of the top 10 is Central Missouri University of Warrensburg, MO. The Jennies (21-6-1) were inactive during December and slipped to a sixth ranking. Retaining the seventh place ranking was Alabama A&M University of Normal, AL. The Bulldogs (19-9-0) also did not compete last month. Moving up a notch to the eighth place was Sacred Heart University of Fairfield, CT. The Pioneers (24-9-0) finished fourth at the Holiday Jamboree. Sliding down a spot to ninth was Texas Southern University of Houston, TX. The Lady Tigers are 32-11-0 this season. In tenth place for the second straight poll was Minnesota State-Mankato, MN.
