MID-WINTER CLASSIC HEAVILY INFLUENCES
LATEST NTCA SWEET-16

DOVER, DE – Following their second team championship of the season, Fairleigh Dickinson
University
of Teaneck, NJ, was ranked as the No. 1 NCAA bowling team in the country for the fourth
consecutive poll conducted by the National Tenpins Coaches Association. The NTCA is the voice and
leadership of NCAA women’s bowling. This is the fourth of six monthly polls scheduled for the 2006-
2007 season.

Fairleigh Dickinson (49-11-0) needed every frame to capture the Mid-Winter Classic, hosted by
Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR. The event drew arguably the most competitive field of
the season, when 13 of the top 16 nationally ranked teams competed. The Knights overcame a 96 pin
deficit during the final Quad-Baker Series match and edged NJCU at the wire by eight pins.

Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN was ranked second by the NTCA membership for the
third straight poll. The Commodores (46-10-0) finished in fifth place in Jonesboro, but had a
tournament best 8-1 head-to-head match record during the event, including victories over FDU and
NJCU.

Moving up a notch to No. 3 was New Jersey City. The Gothic Knights (46-12-0) have had
strong performance during their last three tournaments with two second place finishes, including the
Mid-Winter Classic and UMES Hawk Classic, and a first place finish at the FDU Holiday Jamboree.

The University of Nebraska – Lincoln slipped down a slot to the No. 4 ranking in the poll. Most
recently, the Huskers (41-12-0) won the bronze medal at the Mid-Winter Classic, where they put
together a second-day rally that fell just 42 pins shy of the tournament title.

Central Missouri University of Warrensburg, MO improved to a No. 5 ranking after a solid
performance at the Mid-Winter Classic. The Jennies now own a 49-17-1 season match record.

The University of Maryland – Eastern Shore of Princess Ann, MD dropped to a sixth place
ranking. The Hawks (62-13-0) have won the second most matches and own the second highest winning
percentage (.827) in the nation. Holding onto the seventh, eighth, and ninth place rankings were
Alabama A&M University of Normal, AL (46-21-0); Sacred Heart University of Fairfield, CT (28-
10-0); and Texas Southern University of Houston, TX (55-16-0), respectively. Climbing back into the
top ten was Arkansas State University. The Indians (43-35-1) won the Greater Ozarks Invitational in
