REIGNING NATIONAL CHAMPS ARE NO. 1
IN NTCA NOVEMBER POLL
HACKENSACK, NJ – Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN, the 2007 NCAA bowling national champions, collected 14 of 18 first place votes and remained as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation by the National Tenpins Coaches Association. This is the second of six monthly national polls scheduled for the 2007-‘08 season by the NTCA, the voice and leadership of NCAA bowling.
The Commodores (27-6) won the 20-team UMES Hawk Classic in Millsboro, DE, finished second at the UWW Cheeseland Classic in Fort Atkinson, WI, and recorded the second best match record at the Central Region Fall Jamboree in Jonesboro, AR during November.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (21-6)was ranked second for the second straight poll, receiving four first place votes. The Huskers could not have started their season any better. UN-L won two team titles -- the Cheeseland Classic and the Maverick Challenge in Chicago, IL.
Moving up a notch since the last poll to a No. 3 ranking was the University of Maryland Eastern Shore of Princess Anne, MD. The Hawks (31-6) had a busy month, winning 16 of 18 matches in the Mid-East Athletic Conference, ending third at their own Hawk Classic, and finishing in second place at the National Team Match Games in St. Louis, MO.
The UniversityofCentral Missouriof Warrensburg, MOheld onto their fourth place ranking. The Jennies (24-7) accrued the best record at the Central Region Fall Jamboree in Jonesboro, AR and took home third place at the Maverick Challenge this past month.
Sacred Heart University of Fairfield, CT climbed a couple of rungs into the fifth place ranking. The Pioneers (17-4)are in first place in the North East Women’s Collegiate Bowling Conference standings, winning both NEWCBC meets with a 8-2 conference record.
Two more NEWCBC teams, Fairleigh Dickinson University(23-11)of Teaneck, NJ and New Jersey City University(21-13)of Jersey City, NJ, filled the sixth and seventh place rankings, respectively. Delaware State University (25-4) of Dover, DE, off to its best start in program history, leaped ten spots in the poll and landed in the eighth place. A third place finish at the Cheeseland Classic helped Arkansas State University (17-6)of Jonesboro, AR be the No. 9 ranked team. Rounding out the Top-10 was Alabama A&M University (29-8) of Huntsville, AL, which opened its Southwest Athletic Conference season winning all twelve of their matches.
