THIRD STRAIGHT TITLE LIFTS NEBRASKA-LINCOLN TO NO. 1
IN NTCA NEW YEAR’S POLL
HACKENSACK, NJ – The University of Nebraska – Lincoln was ranked as the nation’s No. 1 team by the National Tenpins Coaches Association, the leadership of NCAA women’s bowling. The Huskers received 12 of 19 first place votes in the NTCA’s New Year’s poll, the third of six scheduled national polls for the 2007-’08 season.
Nebraska-Lincoln (29-7) has won three team titles in as many outings this season. In their latest championship, the Capital City Classic in Jackson, MS, the Huskers came from behind in the final two matches of the event, eclipsing previously top ranked Vanderbilt by 63 pins. UN-L returns to action on January 18th at the Greater Ozark Invitational in Springfield, MO.
Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN, was ranked second in the poll, collecting seven first place votes. The Commodores (33-9) were edged by Nebraska in the event’s final match to finish in second place at the Capital City Classic. Vanderbilt will look for revenge at the Greater Ozark Invitational later this month.
Ranked third for the second straight poll was the University of Maryland Eastern Shore of Princess Anne, MD. The Hawks (51-12) competed in the Jeannette Lee Invitational in Richmond, VA and the FDU Holiday Jamboree in Elmwood Park, NJ since the last poll, finishing third in both.
The University of Central Missouri of Warrensburg, MO was ranked in fourth place once again. The Jennies (33-8) won the Jeannette Lee Invitational championship during their sole competition in December. Central Missouri will play host to their next event, the Greater Ozark Invitational.
Up one place to fifth was Fairleigh Dickinson University of Teaneck, NJ. In December, the Knights (43-17) won the championship at the FDU Holiday Jamboree and finished fourth at the Jeannette Lee Invitational.
New Jersey City University (43-17) of Jersey City, NJ, moved up to a sixth place ranking after second place finishes at the Jeannette Lee Invitational and the FDU Holiday Jamboree. Arkansas State University (25-7) of Jonesboro, AR climbed two notches to seventh place after a third place finish at the Capital City Classic. Sacred Heart University (28-8) of Fairfield, CT, the leader in the North East Women’s Bowling Conference, was ranked eighth. The ninth ranked squad was Alabama A&M University (29-8) of Huntsville, AL and Delaware State University (40-15) of Dover, DE closed out the Top-10.
